The Timbavati Foundation

As an integral extension of the Timbavati Nature Reserve, the Timbavati Foundation embodies our unwavering commitment to fostering symbiotic relationships between conservation efforts and neighbouring communities.

Since the year 2010, the Timbavati Foundation has been assisting the communities neighbouring the Timbavati, particularly in areas where the greatest need for support have been identified. The Foundation connects to 15 neighbouring community areas that border the reserve.

Guided by the African philosophy of interconnectedness, “Ubuntu”, the Foundation recognises that Timbavati can only be successful if it helps uplift and inspire the neighbouring communities alongside us. Our holistic approach aims to create lasting, positive change in the lives of those we serve.

EXPLORE THE FOUNDATION

The Foundation’s Core Pillars

01

Quality Education

The Foundation emphasises a high quality cradle to career support model in their Education tier. It ensures that from an early education right through to adulthood career level, communities can benefit from their quality education programs, bursary & further study offerings as well as work internships which will enhance their educational foundations and personal growth.

02

Environmental Awareness

The Foundation envisions transforming & capacitating generations to come to be well-informed and passionate individuals, capable of contributing to the preservation of ecosystems. Environmental education holds significant importance, especially in rural communities bordering protected areas like the Timbavati. The Foundation focuses on engaging within communities from a young age to grow their understanding and appreciation for our natural environment through their programs. Working in four (4) focus Primary Schools and four (4) focus High Schools, delivering environmental education lessons and excursions to over 2000 young learners each years.

03

Social Upliftment

The Foundation’s role and commitment to supporting those less fortunate, vulnerable and providing support where possible is unmatching. Over the years, the Timbavati Foundation has supported beneficiaries ranging from old age homes, schools, youth centre’s and even now rising entrepreneurs. Projects include - building eco-ablution facilities, creating shade netted organic food gardens, drilling for water supply, refurbishing and/or building of classrooms and kitchens. Other programs include mentorship of upcoming local enterprises as well as supporting adolescent school girls with washable sanitary towels.

04

Healthcare

The Timbavati Foundation’s commitment to supporting healthcare partners and programs shows the interconnected contribution which collaborative partners can show. The Foundation currently supports, funds and works together with Hlokomela and the Tshemba Foundation, both recognised healthcare supporting non-profit organisations within the Greater Kruger Region. Through supporting them, the Timbavati not only has their own clinic facility on the reserve supported by Hlokomela to care for reserve employees but also paves the way to provide quality healthcare to hospitals such as Tinswalo Hospital through the Tshemba Foundation.
